Q: How does using JICT Images impact the dynamics of a group?
Setting a scenario: One team member refuses to delegate responsibilities, work slows, others are frustrated, errors increase and performance suffers. Conversation moves to a blaming, excuse giving place.
A: JICT Images on the scene: Using an image allows those in the conversation, through metaphor, to identify the barriers. Using the rafting image in relation to the inability to delegate, one might say, if I let go I'll fall out of the raft, I'll be out of control, I'm not sure the work will get done. What has been revealed now is that fear and lack of trust are undermining the person's ability to truly be a team member. This allows the group to have a conversation that will open possibilities for change.
